Eisner Awards

The nominees were announced today for the 2011 Eisner Awards, and Life With Archie has landed one in the Best Publication for Young Adults (Ages 12-17) category!

Congratulations to Fernando Ruiz, Pat & Tim Kennedy, Norm Breyfogle and all the rest of the talented men and women who get this comic out every month. And thanks to publisher Jonathan Goldwater and editor Victor Gorelick for giving me the opportunity to do what I do on the title, and, of course, to Michael Uslan, who got the whole "Married Life" ball rolling!

Charlton Spotlight on Dick Giordano and George Wildman

The seventh issue of Charlton Spotlight magazine is out, containing, among other things, an interview with one-time Charlton Comics editor and Popeye artist George Wildman, as well as remembrances of another one-time Charlton Comics editor and artist, the late, great Dick Giordano. I contributed a short piece on Mr. G, who had been both my boss and a friend, as does Ron Frantz.
Charlton Spotlight ("Exploring the History of the Charlton Comics Group"), published by Michael Ambrose, is an excellent source of information on the defunct Little Comic Book Company That Could and always a fun read.

Everything's Still Archie!

Not only is the second Life With Archie: The Married Life graphic novel (collecting issues #7-12 of Life With Archie magazine) out this week, but the monthly Life With Archie magazine keeps making news...and just a bit of controversy!

The celebrated Life With Archie #16, featuring the well-publicized wedding of Kevin Keller and Clay Walker, has sold out (word is, copies are going for big bucks on eBay and Amazon), and has got a Million Moms mad at me and retail outlets like Toys 'R' Us which carried the issue. Seems those Million Moms have some kind of problem with love, commitment, and marriage, but I wish them well and thank them for the publicity.

And, last but not least, news broke this week of an upcoming story line, focusing on Cheryl Blossom and her battle with breast cancer.

I've said it before and it's still true: I'm having the best time of my comics writing career on Life With Archie. Not only do I get to tell real stories about real people, but I've also being given the opportunity to put a spotlight on issues that don't normally get much attention in the four-color funny book fantasy world. As much as some accuse us of sensationalism, my top priority is to tell a good story and, a million moms--who number far less than that, alliteration aside--here or there who make claims to the contrary, that's just what we're doing.
